If you're looking for something different in a travel guide, CHERYL'S GUIDES just might be what you're looking for.

When she travels,
CHERYL'S GUIDES founder Cheryl Probst likes to seek out places that are off the beaten tourist path. She finds them less crowded than mainstream attractions and just as enjoyable because she's not fighting any crowds to see what's there.  And she likes to get to these places by public transportation as it provides another opportunity to meet locals.

Cheryl published her first do-it-yourself guide,
17 really neat things to see and do in Beijing and other good stuff I learned the hard way, back in 1996. It was a hit with readers. Over the years it was updated and expanded until, in 2009, it became DIY Beijing: a guide for the independent traveler.

She's since added more guides to her guidebook line, and others are on the drawing board.

Cheryl points out her guides are not the be-all guide of travel guides. There are no hotel or restaurant recommendations.
CHERYL'S GUIDES are meant to compliment mainstream guidebooks, taking travelers to places these guides frequently ignore or pointing out different things to look for at major attractions.
